Cambodia is a country continuing to work towards addressing its challenges. Whilst having benefited from three decades of relative stability after civil war and the 1970s genocidal rule of the Khmer Rouge, health and education remain important challenges and development priorities.

Our Work
EWB Australia works to improve the quality of life of people living and working in disadvantaged communities in Cambodia. Our work is impact-led, with a focus on positive, sustainable and long-term change. We do this within local communities, to ensure we build the capacity of the people who live and work in them. Through this approach, we have established long-term relationships with local organisations with whom we partner, to ensure the solutions developed are evidence-based, relevant and, importantly, approved by each community.
In Cambodia, we work across a specific range of thematic programs, including Water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH), Education & Training, Engineering Education, Inclusive Design and Clean Energy.

Our Team
Key to this work are our in-country EWB Australia staff and our volunteer Field Professionals.
Our Field Professionals are technical or thematic specialists who volunteer to work in-country to provide critical expertise, mentoring and capacity-building. These technical professionals are not only skilled in the development of appropriate systems and solutions, but also in community-led design and engagement. Our Field Professionals work alongside our in-country staff, or within our local partner organisations. Via this collaborative response, we enable and empower remote Cambodian communities to only tackle the issues that are relevant and of priority to their communities.
Pin has over 20 years’ experience in project implementation and management of humanitarian, water and sanitation and hygiene. He has extensive general WASH techniques and tools including PHAST, CLTS, WASH education, incorporate Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Preparedness in WASH.

From Cambodia, Ratha has over 6 years’ experience working in the WASH sector, especially urban and rural water supply in technical design and management. Ratha has been involved in numerous projects with organisations such as the World Bank, UNICEF, ADB and Australian Aid. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge and experiences with communities locally and overseas in countries such as Myanmar and the Philippines. Ratha holds an engineering degree in Water Resources and Rural Infrastructures from the Institute of Technology of Cambodia and a Masters of Business Administration from the National University of Management in Cambodia. Ratha’s hobbies include playing football, basketball, marathons and music.

Chanrika graduated in bio-engineering in 2019. She has been involved with EWB since 2018 through participating in the EWB internship program with ATEC Biodigesters. As an EWB alumni, Rika also attended the EWB design workshop and critical thinking course in 2019. With a passion for human-centred design skills and critical thinking, Rika volunteered to co-facilitate school outreach workshops and was a leader of the critical thinking team in 2019 and 2020. She always starts her mornings with 15 minutes of yoga; and the perfect weekend is spending the whole day with family in their home town, cooking and trying new dishes together – and playing with the dogs and kittens.

In his role as the Assistive Technology Officer, Mengheang supports the analysis, concept designs, prototypes, trials, evaluation, and progress control of products for innovative technology solutions for people living with disabilities. In his spare time, Mengheang enjoys listening to music, reading, playing football and going for trips with his family.
