Inclusive Design

Ensuring everybody has access to the most appropriate engineering solutions, regardless of disadvantage or disability.

1 billion people

experience some form of disability

690 million

men, women and children who live with some form of disability in the Asia-Pacific region

10%

of population in Cambodia aged 5 and over live with some form of disability

Global evidence indicates that children and adults with disabilities are among the most marginalized and excluded groups in society. They are often excluded from the economic and social life of their communities, lack access to school, health clinics, public transportation, public spaces, work sites and community events. This exclusion can result from inaccessible infrastructure, and from institutional barriers and discriminatory attitudes.

Our work

EWB Australia’s Inclusive Design focus aims to improve the ability of people to participate in society regardless of disadvantage or disability. We do this through the creation of new, appropriate technology for use by community; empowering community through creative capacity building to develop innovation and problem solving skills; and improving social inclusion for people in-community
