Professional Skills Development
Enabling and inspiring the human-centered engineering movement in Timor-Leste, from students to professionals.EWB Australia’s Professional Skills Development Program in Timor-Leste enables the local technical sectors to provide access to appropriate solutions for sustainable development. From student to professional, our programs provide a pathway of support and inspiration to foster a strong, locally-focused, human-centred engineering movement.
For University Students
Aligned with the University curriculum, EWB connects with local Universities in Timor-Leste to provide support and build capacity in students studying engineering and associated technical degrees.
Design Challenge
EWB Australia in Timor-Leste partners with local community partners, universities and sector organisations to develop a design brief which aims to challenge university students to solve real-world engineering challenges that address the development of Timor-Leste. Students across engineering, architecture and other technical disciplines develop a response to the brief through applying human-centred principles. Facilitators mentor students in document preparation, proposal writing and final presentation, with students presenting their ideas to a panel of experts and end-users.
Internship Programs
The Internship program supports recent graduates to gain professional engineering experience. EWB Australia in Timor-Leste and its partners provide an allowance for Internship placements. The program runs for 3–6 months beginning in April. Interns are placed with an EWB partner, with two weeks spent with EWB for induction, and two weeks at the conclusion of the placement to work together on a final report.
For Professionals
Training Workshops
Training Workshops are held every month and are geared to professionals eager to develop their professional acumen as well as develop their technical capacity.
Feto Enginhera
Women in Engineering or Feto Enginhera (FE), is a group of volunteer women that bring together fellow female engineers in Timor-Leste to collectively build each others skills and learning. It aims to support women to feel empowered to create a better future for Timor-Leste.
For Industry
EWB Australia in Timor-Leste is keen to partner with local private businesses, NGOs or government organisations to support its Industry Engagement Program. This program aims to create more trainee opportunities, placing recently graduated engineers into roles within the sector, in order to gain experience and develop their abilities and skills, with a view to permanent employment.
