What kind of role does engineering play in tackling COVID-19?
A massive one.
EWB Australia facilitator alumnus, Professor Lauren Gardner, is part of the team at the forefront of engineering the system that tracks the pandemic – called the COVID-19 Dashboard.
Built by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at John Hopkins University, the site gets over a billion requests a day from around the world.
Since its creation in late January 2020, it has been a main source of information for government and public health entities across the world, as well the general public via social media.
Lauren, a Co-director of the CSSE, recently appeared on Capitol Hill in the US, alongside a panel of other Johns Hopkins experts, to brief congressional staff and media about the global COVID-19 outbreak and a tour of the how the dashboard works.
