Engineers Without Borders Australia is excited to share with you news of the appointment of Russell Shewan as the new CEO of Engineers Without Borders Australia, effective Tuesday 11th June 2024.
Russell has held executive and leadership roles with organisations such as ONCALL Group Australia, LiverWELL, Healthcare Australia, and Yooralla – one of the largest disability service providers in Victoria. His extensive experience working with communities and key stakeholders includes managing the co-design process for the National COVID vaccination program for people with disability. He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, holds a Masters in Engineering (Engineering/Commerce) and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Manufacturing Technology from RMIT.
Announcing Russell’s appointment, Margarita Moya, Chair of the EWB Australia Board said “With 29 years of experience in the engineering, private and for-purpose sector, Russell has the ideal mix of expertise to lead EWB through its next chapter. Importantly, he shares the same values as EWB and recognises the unique contribution engineers can make in creating an equitable reality for the planet and its people. We are delighted to welcome Russell to the organisation and look forward to working with him in his new role.”
Speaking about his appointment, Russell said “I am excited to join the remarkable team at Engineers Without Borders Australia. I join the team with a commitment to collaboration, a passion for continued innovation and a strong respect for EWB’s incredible work. As a fellow engineer, I am committed to EWB’s vision – a world where technology benefits all. Together, we will continue to bridge gaps, innovate and uplift the lives of communities in Australia and internationally. I look forward to meeting and understanding the aspirations of the communities we work with, our volunteers, staff, business partners and other stakeholders.”
On behalf of the EWB Australia Board, Margarita also extended her thanks to Eleanor Loudon, who has led the organisation over the last 6 years and announced earlier this year her decision to step down. “During her time at the helm, EWB embarked on our 2030 strategy and delivered ambitious programs for our funders, partners, and the communities that we work with. We thank her for her commitment to EWB’s mission and her contribution to all we’ve been able to achieve together.”
Russell is based in Melbourne where he lives with his family.
