EWB works in partnership with community organisations and local communities in Timor-Leste, Cambodia and Vanuatu, assisting them to gain access to the knowledge, resources and appropriate technologies they need to improve their livelihoods.

EWB Australia seeks proactive, adaptable, culturally-sensitive and resilient people who are passionate about sharing their technical and professional skills and experience to achieve a positive impact on marginalised communities and to create change within the Australian engineering sector.

EWB field placements comprise ‘Field Professionals’, Mentors’ and ‘Specialists’ – all opportunities to share your professional skills and build local capacity, rather than delivering a project solo.

EWB Australia often seek professionals (engineering, infrastructure development, technology development, education, business etc) to support effective and appropriate outcomes with communities. These positions are open to Australian and New Zealand citizens or permanent residents and are subject to funding approval. We are only able to confirm the placement after successful completion of EWB Australia’s Pre Departure Training.

Field Professional placements are typically of 12 to 20 months duration. ‘Mentor’ and ‘Specialist’ positions are deployed for shorter tenures (typically for 6 months), supporting EWB Field staff or our partner organisations with a discrete piece of work.

All positions are voluntary, however a living allowance is provided to cover general day-to-day expenses and accommodation to support a modest but comfortable standard of living. Other costs covered by EWB include pre-departure training, airfares, insurance, language training and visa fees.

Field Placement Intakes

Field Placement intakes occur 2-3 times per year. EWB Australia is evolving its mobilisation program to increase the number of professionals in the field supporting positive outcomes with the communities in which we work.  We anticipate that to do so, we will have an increase in formal intake rounds and an increase in ‘Mentor’ and ‘Specialist’ positions advertised throughout the year.

Positions will be advertised here. Register your interest to receive a notification when positions become available.
